FOREWORD

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy as the gold standard for cholecystectomy may serve as the basis for a surgeon to have the right to learn and perform laparoscopic surgery. The idea that surgeons are born in misconception. Surgeons are trained. The Philippine Society of General Surgeons for the past six years has relentlessly pursued the objective to offer basic laparoscopic surgery training to our resident trainees and to conceptualize STANDARDIZED TEACHING METHOD. The author of this book tremendously reinforced this concept. Dr. Deogracias Reyes willingly agreed to conceptualize the Training Resource Manual for Minimal Access Surgery.

PREFACE

Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) has had a profound impact on the practice of surgery. Drivers of this approach to surgical diseases have consistently been the reduction of surgical stress resulting in less pain, earlier return to full function, and of course improved cosmesis. Despite the exceptional technical, physical, and mental demands on the surgeon, the approach has been accepted with great excitement and expectation.
